Mausam Benazir Noor is contesting the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections from the Malatipur constituency, marking her return to state-level electoral politics after switching back to the Congress.

A former two-time Lok Sabha MP from Malda, Noor represented the constituency between 2009 and 2019 before moving to the Trinamool Congress, where she later served as a Rajya Sabha MP. In January 2026, she rejoined the Congress, a move that has reshaped the political equations in Malda, a district where she retains significant recall due to her political lineage linked to former Union minister ABA Ghani Khan Choudhury.

Her candidature from Malatipur comes at a time when the Congress is attempting to regain ground in a region it once dominated, even as the TMC seeks to retain its consolidation and the BJP looks to benefit from any split in votes.

According to her election affidavit, Noor has declared assets of over Rs 2.5 crore and no criminal cases against her. A practising lawyer by profession, she has also reported an increase in income in recent years, along with details of movable and immovable assets and bank loans.

With her political experience, family legacy and recent party switch, Noor’s contest in Malatipur is being closely watched as part of the larger battle for Malda district in the 2026 elections.

Candidate Info: Mausam B Noor is the Indian National Congress (INC) candidate contesting from Malatipur (General) Assembly constituency for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. This female candidate is 46 years of age, according to the election affidavit submitted to the Election Commission of India.
