Senior TMC leader Arup Roy is contesting the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections from the Howrah Madhya constituency, a seat he has consistently held for over a decade.

A key face in Howrah politics, Roy has built a strong electoral record marked by comfortable victory margins across successive elections. In the 2021 Assembly polls, he defeated BJP’s Sanjay Singh by 46,547 votes, reinforcing the party’s hold over the constituency.

His dominance was even more pronounced in earlier elections. In 2016, Roy secured 91,800 votes, defeating JD(U)’s Amitabha Dutta by a margin of 52,994 votes. Prior to that, in 2011, he won the seat with 1,03,184 votes, defeating CPI(M)’s Arup Ray by 50,670 votes.

Roy’s repeated victories underline his entrenched position in Howrah Madhya, where the TMC has maintained a steady political advantage since coming to power in the state. His consistent performance across elections reflects both personal political capital and the party’s organisational strength in this industrial-urban belt.

As he seeks another term in 2026, Arup Roy remains central to the TMC’s strategy in Howrah, with the constituency continuing to be seen as a key battleground for retaining its urban support base.

Candidate Info: Arup Roy is the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate contesting from Howrah Madhya (General) Assembly constituency for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. This male candidate is 70 years of age, according to the election affidavit submitted to the Election Commission of India.
