Ahmed Javed Khan is contesting the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections as the Trinamool Congress (TMC) candidate from the Kasba constituency, a seat he has represented for multiple terms.

A senior TMC leader, Ahmed Javed Khan is a veteran politician and sitting MLA from Kasba, having first won the seat in 2011 and retained it in subsequent elections. He is currently a cabinet minister in the West Bengal government, handling the Disaster Management portfolio under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Born on August 31, 1956, in Kolkata, Khan is a Commerce graduate from St. Xavier’s College. He began his political career at the municipal level, serving as a councillor in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation for over a decade and later as Member, Mayor-in-Council (Health). He also served as Leader of the Opposition in the KMC before moving to state-level politics.

Before representing Kasba in 2011, Khan was elected as an MLA from Ballygunge in 2006. He transitioned to the Kasba constituency after delimitation and has since maintained a strong electoral presence there.

According to election affidavits, Khan describes his profession as a social worker and businessman, with income sources including rental, salary, and business activities.

As the TMC’s candidate again from Kasba in 2026, Ahmed Javed Khan remains one of the party’s established faces in Kolkata’s urban political landscape.
