AIADMK leader P Thangamani is contesting the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections from the Kumarapalayam constituency in Namakkal district, seeking to retain a seat he has held continuously for over a decade.
A senior figure in the AIADMK, Thangamani is the sitting MLA from Kumarapalayam and has won the constituency in three consecutive elections — 2011, 2016 and 2021 — firmly establishing it as a party stronghold under his leadership. In the 2021 polls, he secured close to 50% vote share and won by a margin of over 31,000 votes.
Thangamani has had a long ministerial career in Tamil Nadu, holding key portfolios across successive AIADMK governments. He served as Minister for Industries between 2011 and 2016, and later handled the crucial Electricity, Prohibition and Excise portfolio from 2016 to 2021, playing a central role in the state’s power and industrial policy framework.
His political journey began in western Tamil Nadu, where he first entered the Assembly from Tiruchengode in 2006 before shifting to Kumarapalayam after delimitation. Since then, he has built a strong base in the region, which is driven by textile and powerloom industries and shaped by local economic concerns such as employment, power supply and infrastructure.
Known as a seasoned organisational leader within the AIADMK, Thangamani has also held key party roles, contributing to cadre mobilisation in the Kongu belt.
